On Mar. 38, Prof. Esteban Broitman of Linköping University was invited by Prof. Peiling Ke to visit Ningbo Institute of Industrial Technology for academic exchange and collaborative research. The deputy director of Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Prof. Runwei Li awarded Prof. Esteban CAS Senior International Scientist and signed PIFI Service Agreement. Prof. Aiying Wang, Prof. Peiling Ke from Key Laboratory of Marine Materials and Related Technologies, and director of international cooperation of Department of Science and Technology Development, Ms. Xuxia Zhao attended the Appointment Ceremony.

After the ceremony, Prof. Esteban gave a invited report named “Mechanical and Tribological Aspects of Carbon-based Coatings”. In the report, Prof. Esteban reviewed the recent research developments on the mechanical and tribological properties of carbon based films, and introduced some featured research results on the in situ measurement of friction and wear properties of materials on micro and nano scale. Take fullerene like CNx thin film for example, he presented his research progress on coating preparation, structure characterization, micro/nano mechanical properties and tribological behavior, and the application of it on shafts. In the Q&A session, Prof. Esteban and researchers had a good interaction about the preparation of fullerene like structure coatings, refined TEM characterization, HiPIMS technology, etc.

Esteban Broitman, Professor, Department of Physics, Thin Film Physics Division, Linköping University, Sweden. He have profound research experience on the design, microstructure control, and micro/nano tribology of carbon based films. As far as March 2016, he have more than 100 publications in peer reviewed journals with about 1467 citations (h-index 21) in the field of Thin film and Tribology, and rewarded by the US, Sweden and Argentina governments. In addition, he established long term and stable cooperation with some world famous companies such as SKF, CemeCon, AG.

Under the auspices of the CAS visiting professorship for senior international scientists, Prof. Esteban will cooperate with us on structure control, micro/nano mechanics and tribology researches of advanced surface enhancement coatings, and personnel training. Through the cooperation from the two sides, it is hopeful to provide a good deal of insight into the fundamental aspects of C/MoS2 composite coatings, and establish the basis for high performance surface enhancement and modification coatings in the applications of marine, aviation and mobility fields.
